Hepatitis B is a rapidly growing viral infection in these days. There are most hepatitis b cases in China in the world. After that India is the second largest as per WHO’s report. India registered 2.98 crore hepatitis B cases in 2022 while the number of hepatitis C infections stood at 55 lakhs. As per WHO report, India is accounted for the second-highest number of cases of hepatitis B and C in 2022 next to China, whereas China has the 3.5 crore infections in viral hepatitis.
Hepatitis is a serious liver inflammation that can cause the liver cancer, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma with an array of other health problems created.
However, as per WHO’s Global Hepatitis Report 2024, 254 million people lived with hepatitis B and 50 million with hepatitis C in 2022 globally.
There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus, these are Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. While they all cause liver disease, they differ in important ways including modes of transmission, severity of the illness, geographical distribution, and prevention methods. On the other hand, World Hepatitis Summit said, there are 3,500 people are dying globally due to hepatitis B and C infections every day.
